We understand the importance of working with others and getting things done. We also understand the complexities of the matter. In order to work smoothly with others and get results we need some small tweaks, big ones, sacrifices too.

You need to ask yourself is it important to me? To them? Are we part of a larger group or organisation or is it just me and them?

First you need to know that the person you are working with is a person. A different individual with a different set of everything and that there will be differences, obstacles and disagreements.

Agree to disagree. Establish common goals and grounds then tick the following 12 important vital ingredients off and you’re good to go!

  1. Adapt to an agreeable and workable area.
  2. Change to a new area and work style that works which could be far away from your comfort zone(s).
  3. Communicate all the time, not only your way, their way too until you get to a common language you both can relate to.
  4. Speak up when things are bothering you or you simply don’t understand something.
  5. Listen actively and more importantly to what’s not being said or conveyed, read between the lines.
  6. Discuss ideas not people, problems and pathetic gossip. Go for obstacle busting, learning and raising the bar.
  7. Don’t take things personal when the going gets tough the tough get going.
  8. Always remember that you operate and think differently and so do they.
  9. Know that the show must go on.
  10. Learn, unlearn and make learning from the joint effort a goal to get to know yourself better.
  11. Practice emotional intelligence.
  12. Clarify, clarify and clarify some more.

All the best in whatever it is you are trying to accomplish!
